Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Brigadier General Lawrence Ngubane, has said that his troops would, henceforth, launch preemptive attacks on camps of militants operating in the area instead of waiting for them to first strike.
He said the new strategy would be to carry out strikes against the militant camps before they launch any attack on oil installations or kidnap foreign oil workers for ransom.
We are no longer going to wait for the militants to strike before we engage them. We will, henceforth, carry out preemptive attacks on their camps whenever we have information about their plans. This will put them on the defensive, he said.
General Ngubane, who spoke through the JTF Public Relations Officer, Major Omale Ochagwuba, on Sunday night, warmed the militants to lay down their arms and embrace the peace initiative of the Federal Government in finding a lasting solution to the problems of the region.
He reiterated that he would no longer condone situations where his officers and men were being unnecessarily attacked while performing their constitutional duties in the region.
