Pandemonium broke out yesterday morning as the Joint Task Force (JTF) engaged suspected cultists in a gun duel at Aba road after they intercepted their vehicle laden with arms and ammunition.
Those arrested during the raid and subsequent shoot-out were taken to their homes which were searched the Task Force but kept mum on what was recovered.
However, a source said JTF recovered arms and ammunition.
The incident caused traffic jam on the road as people who heard the shooting scampered for safety in different directions, some even abandoned their cars and fled before normalcy returned after about 30 minutes.
JTF spokesman, Major Musa Sagir confirmed the interception, adding that those arrested had links with the cult related disturbances in the state, while they quartered wanted elements in their houses.
Musa however did not disclose how many people were arrested, the quantity of arms recovered, but assured that JTF is on top of the security situation in Rivers State.
On what the next line of action would be, he said they will carry out more raids and take the war to the criminals, insisting that they were not ready to compromise the return of peace to the State.
