Jonathan claims Chibok girls “still alive”

President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed the schoolgirls Boko Haram sect members kidnapped were still alive.

He disclosed this during an appearance on morning television on Thursday.

“The girls are still alive. They have not been killed because the terrorists always display when they killed,” Jonathan claimed.

The President was hopeful the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped in April would eventually be rescued.

“There are still some areas occupied by the terrorists, the girls would be found when this areas are completely liberated.”

Jonathan added that the military was mindful of civilians in the custody of terrorists.

“It is true terrorists might want to use the girls as shield,  that is why the military are slow in their operations. Not just the Chibok girls, there are other civilian in their custody and that is why the military are careful in their operations.”

He also assured Nigerians that the government has put measures in place to cub the current shortage of fuel supply in the country.
