Lagos State, in collaboration with the state police command, is all set to beef up its security base as part of efforts to check the rising wave of crime.
State commissioner of police, Yakub Alkhali, who made the revelation at the end of the state security meeting, added that the monthly security meeting would now hold weekly so there will be brainstorming on best ways to create a conducive environment for residents of the state.
“We just finished the security council meeting on how to embark on crime control in Lagos,” he said, adding that “formerly, the meeting was scheduled once a month but because we want to give residents of Lagos a more conducive environment where they can do their business without any hitch, we decided to schedule the meeting on a weekly basis.”
He disclosed that the police have impounded a total of 607 motorbikes since last week when the operation started, adding that they were raided for contravening rules governing their operations in the state. He said that a total of 447 persons were also arrested during the operation and called on residents of the state to be more alert during the ember months.
