Incessant Jos Crisis Worries President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concern over the incessant violence crises that have continues to engulf Jos and its environs, warning that the present administration shall no longer fold its hands while a few, disgruntled zealots wreck havoc on innocent citizens, including staff and students of the University of Jos. According to him, the government has resolved to get to the root of the matter to create an enabling environment for every Nigerian to live, work or do business in any part of the country without fear of molestation or discrimination. President Goodluck Jonathan who spoke through the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of education Prof. Nicolas Damashi at the 24th convocation ceremony of the University of Jos, noted that both the Plateau and federal governments shall address the recommendations of the various investigative reports into the series of crisis that have engulfed the state over the years.

He disclosed that security agents have been deployed to secure the lives and properties of students, as well as everyone living in the state, stressing that the end of impunity has come; “Enough is enough”, he warned.

President Jonathan also stressed that the movement to the permanent site of the University of Jos has a security imperative, as government is aware of the frequent risks students, staff and infrastructure are exposed to during the crisis within the Jos metropolis, adding that government will continue to assist in the progressive development of the permanent site.

According to him, in view of the devastating impact of the sectarian violence and ethnic conflicts in the country, educational institutions must pay attention to correct, moral conduct and all-round education, adding that the concepts of communal responsibility, respect for human life and the need to realise the limits of individual rights should be emphasised in the university curricular for all undergraduates.
