The embattled Vice Presi-dent and Action Congress Presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reiterated his determination to contest the forthcoming Presidential election in spite of his disqualification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Atiku told a mammoth crowd that gathered for the AC rally in Yola that only God can stop him from contesting the elections as, according him, INEC has no powers to exclude him.
He added that his candidacy and party was ordained and blessed by God to emancipate the people of Nigeria from economic and political doldrums which the PDP administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo has sunk the country.
He said Nigeria was at political crossroad because Nigerians have had to chose between one party state, dictatorship and unconstitutionalism by voting for PDP or voting for democracy, rule of law and progress by voting for his party.
He stressed that Nigeria has never had it so good in terms of revenue generation yet the country continues to wallow in poverty and stagnation because of bad leadership and lack of vision of the Obasanjo administration.
The Vice President said in 1999, when the PDP administration of Obasanjo came to power, over 3500 megawatts of electricity was being generated, but, that today, after over $150 billion invested in the sector, electricity generation has declined to a little over 300 megawatts.
He accused the Obasanjo administration of perpetuating insecurity, poverty and suffering, saying that in spite of the Presidents preaching on good governance, it has been found out that he was exactly the opposite, asking rhetorically, where are the roads, the electricity that we yearly made budgetary provision? It is eaten up with corruption. There is no road, no money.
He alleged that there is no single federal road project in Adamawa state as all projects were abandoned because of the difference of opinion between him and Obasanjo, adding that one of the tenets of democracy is the right to hold individual opinion and association.
He said all those who were foundation members of the PDP have since deserted the party because of the autocratic nature of the President.
He called on AC supporters nationwide to safeguard their mandate from the manipulation of the presidency and the PDP adding that even the use of the military and police should not stop the people from insisting on what is correct and right while advising security agencies to resist being used against their fellow citizens.
