THE minister of health Professor Babatunde Osotimehin said at the weekend that health indicators in Nigeria rank amongst the poorest in the world .
The minister informed that it was a great concern to the federal government and therefore informs the reason for the government huge investment in the health sector.
Speaking in Gausau Zamfara State during the routine immunization programme meeting, Professor Osotimehin disclosed that the meting was a critical step towards achieving a consensus on how to move forward especially on immunization activities within the context of primary health care.
According to him, “the objective of the meeting is to review the use of GAVI support from strengthening the health systems in Nigeria to enable us achieve consensus for priority activities in 2009”
He said the federal government recognizes and appreciates the roles of the states in improving Primary HealthCare Services urging them to take further steps to ensure that they take strong leadership in Primary health care delivery by increasing their funding.
