Gunmen release kidnapped AGIP chief

The Divisional Manager (Public Affairs) of Nigeria Agip Oil Company, Mr. Naaman Dienye, who was abducted while going to work in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, has been freed.

A gang of unidentified gunmen had waylaid Dienye along Ada George Road few metres from the NAOC premises and shot his driver before dragging him out of his vehicle and took him away. The NAOC manager, who is an indigene of Egwede Town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, was released on Thursday evening.

The bandits had taken the oil worker from his Toyota Camry after shooting sporadically to scare other road users. A top security source told our correspondent that Dienye was freed by his captors at Asa Junction in Abia State. Asa is a community located along Aba/Port Harcourt Highway and it is less than 10 minutes drive to the boundary between Rivers and Abia States .

The source said, His kidnappers dropped him at Asa Junction in Abia State at night. The place is near Port Harcourt. When we got wind of his release, we sent our men to pick him up from there.

But the source did not speak on whether a ransom was paid to secure the release of the Agip official. He said, I can confirm that Dienye is hale and hearty but you can understand the trauma of being kidnapped and taken away against your wish.
