Gunmen yesterday kidnapped the wife of Honourable Asita representing Ahoada Federal Constituency of Rivers State in the House of Representatives.
Mrs Asita, was yesterday morning kidnapped by some unknown gunmen on her way to church service at Okilson Drive, Ada George Road, Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Asita, who was said to have been driving in a car with her husband, her mother and mother in-law before they were blocked by the gunmen who took her away, leaving every other occupants of the car behind.
Eyewitness account has it that the gun men merely showed their weapon but did not fire any shot before they took her away to an unknown destination at about 9am yesterday.
Security sources which confirmed the kidnap said it did not take long before the kidnappers called the lawmaker and apologized for the kidnap, claiming that it was a case of �mistaken identity� since she was not their target.
They, however, asked Asita to give them a token for the release of his wife since they had made the mistake of taking her and incurred expenses in the process.
The kidnappers did not, however, define what they meant by token but as at the time of filing this report, security agencies in the State were said to be spreading its tentacles around the group that took her and assured that it would not be long before they will also release her the way they handled a previous case.
�They have called the husband of the woman to demand for a token, I don�t know what they mean by that, saying that they took her by mistake as they mistook her for another person. That may not be true as they may have started panicking over the way our men are on them.
�You know our policy here. There is no payment of any kind that will be given to them whether they call it a token of anything else. That is another name for ransom which we do not give. The option they have is to release her unconditionally or they know what we are going to do�, the source said.
