GUN men in five speed boats have again struck on the Bonny waterways this time abducting the captain of a ship and its engineer. Confirming the development, army PRO and spokesman of the Joint Task Force in Rivers State, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, said it happened at about 11a.m, yesterday around 15 miles north west off the coast of Bonny channel.
He explained that the captain is an expatriate while the engineer is a local. At press time he said the detailed identity of the ship�s captain was still not clear.
�A captain suspected to be a white man whose identity is yet to be ascertained and a black engineer, a Nigerian, was abducted. The attack took place 15 miles north west from the Bonny channel probably beyond the capacity of the JTF and outside its area of responsibility�,Musa told Sunday Vanguard.
Meanwhile, kidnapped wife of oil magnate in Rivers State, Mrs. Margaret Idisi, regained her freedom in the early hours of yesterday. Head of Media of Lonestar Group, Mr. Mike Ugorji, said in a text message to Sunday Vanguard that her state needed urgent medicare. A top security source said she was released in far away Bayelsa State.
She had been abducted penultimate Sunday at their Rumukrushi residence. The kidnappers had initially demanded one billion naira from the husband, Chief Humphrey Idisi, when they established contact with him on phone after the abduction. Idisi told newsmen that after some days of negotiation, they came down to five hundred million naira, an amount he said he still did not have. It could not be confirmed if any ransom was paid to secure her release. No group claimed responsibility for the abduction
