Eriksson discusses Nigerian post

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been in talks with Nigerian soccer officials about taking over the country’s national team.

Eriksson met officials about 10 days ago, said Tord Grip, who served as Eriksson’s assistant coach in England.

“They have met, I know that much, but I don’t know exactly what those discussions were about,” Grip told Swedish Radio.

“I assume they were about the Nigerian national team.”

Grip’s comments came after the football magazine Kick Off Nigeria reported on its website that Eriksson told the publication he would be willing to accept a large pay cut in order to coach Nigeria.

Grip said he would be willing to follow Eriksson to Nigeria “if that is what ‘Svennis’ wants.”

Eriksson has been out of work since stepping down as England coach in July after being eliminated in the World Cup quarterfinals by Portugal.

On Tuesday, British club Newcastle denied reports they wanted to hire Eriksson.
