The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the ‘supplementary’ governorship re-run election in Oye Local government area of Nigeria’s South West Ekiti State for Tuesday, 5 May, according to some local Nigerian media.
The privately-owned Vanguard newspaper reported Sunday that the new date was ann ounced in a statement issued at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, by the Commission’s acting Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umenger.
It quoted the Commission as saying that only accredited agents of political parties and the chief observers of accredited election observer groups would be allowed into the collation centres.
Movement of people in an out of the Oye local government area, INEC also said, would be restricted between 8am and 3pm local time.
Meanwhile, This Day newspaper reported Sunday that INEC had validated the Ido-Osi results in the State.
It added “After nine days of stalemate, INEC has validated the controversial election results from Ido-Osi local government area where the Action Congress (AC) claimed results from eight wards were collated in a police station instead of the regular collation centre.
The paper quoted Umenger as saying the results of the entire re-run in the rest of the 61 wards where elections had been conducted remained valid.
