Dont corrupt customs officials Area Comptroller

The Customs Area Comptroller for Onne in Port Harcourt, Mr. John Atte, on Wednesday advised port users not to lure officers and men of the NCS into corrupt practices in the discharge of their duties.

Atte was speaking at the formal launch of Service Compact with all Nigerians, otherwise known as Servicom, a Federal Government strategy for improving service delivery in Nigeria.

The Area Comptroller accused some port users of flouting Federal Governments laws on imports and turning round to customs officers and men for ways to bail them out.

He said, Please, for Gods sake adhere strictly to the fiscal policies of the present administration and do not try to circumvent the laws because we have a duty to perform for the government.

When you the agents do what is right, there is no need for any official to waste time in clearing your goods and services.

Atte stated that the NCS would not compromise the security and economic interest of Nigeria for anyone in the discharge of its duties at the ports. Atte asked the port users to monitor and report to the authorities, customs officials who failed to render the expected services to them.

At the same time, the customs boss set up a front desk to be manned by officials of NCS to handle all reports of poor service and take steps to address them to improve the operations of the NCS.

Atte disclosed that the use of scanners at the port was gradually gaining momentum to reduce human error and save time at the ports.

He said the officers and men of the NCS in Onne were ready to submit themselves for audit by the port users and also asked the agents to comply strictly with the laid down procedures in port administration to ensure efficient service delivery.
