An overhead water tank collapsed and crushed to death six pupils of the College of Education Model Primary School at Agbor, in Nigeria’s Southern Delta state, and left over 20 others injured on Tuesday, the local press reported.
The report said the pupils were in their classroom when the tank collapsed on the building housing the classroom, killing six of them instantly.
Parents and sympathisers thronged the school in the aftermath of the tragedy, seeking to trace their children and wards.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Hope Iyahyah, visited the the school and the hospital to which the injured children were taken.
He said the government would pick the medical bills of the hospitalised pupils, and would commence investigation into the incident.
