Cholera ravages state hit by massive flooding

A Nigerian state recently hit by massive flooding that left over 100 dead is being ravaged by Cholera, the authorities said. The government of the South-west Oyo state said 30 people have died in the 947 cases of cholera recorded in the past three months.

But the government did not draw a link between the flooding and the outbreak of the disease.

State Commissioner for Health Lateef Olopoenia told journalists here Wednesday that the outbreak had been largely curtailed through curative and preventive measures.

“We have also placed jingles in the media to educate the populace on personal hygiene and the local government areas have also embarked on pot chlorination of wells,’ the Commissioner said.

The state is still reeling from the effects of a massive flooding late last month, following a prolonged downpour.
