Chevron confirms blown oil pipeline

US oil giant Chevron today confirmed that one of its oil pipelines was blown in Nigeria, after a militant group over the weekend claimed to bomb three different facilities belonging to the company and AGIP.
The company told local ”ThisDay” newspaper that its facility on Olero Creek in Delta State was affected and the company was trying to assess the extent of damage.
Niger Delta Liberation Force, a militant group led by notorious gang leader John Togo who is being hunted by the military, claimed on Saturday that it attacked three pipelines Chevron and Italian firm AGIP.
The group was chased away early December from their base in Ayakoromo village in southern Rivers State by the military after a sustained fighting that saw more than 100 people dead, according to some activists.
John Togo and his group had earlier agreed to an amnesty offered by the government to the insurgents but later reneged by taking up arms again.
