A car exploded late on Sunday at a mechanic workshop in Yenagoa, oil rich Nigeria’s Bayelsa State capital, eyewitness said on Monday.
Although no casualty was reported, the incident drew the attention of observers as it occurred on INEC Street where the state deputy governor Peremobowei Ebibi has a hotel complex.
An eyewitness told Xinhua that the mechanic workshop though on the same street with the deputy governor’s hotel, is no where near the spot of the car explosion.
Press secretary to deputy governor Charles Tambou confirmed the explosion to Xinhua on phone from his base in Yenagoa, noting that it was far from his boss complex.
“There is no connection whatsoever between the explosion and the deputy governor because the explosion was more than one and half a kilometer away from the hotel,” he said.
There was no response from the police when they were contacted. Similarly, the military spokesman was not available for comment.
