About 20 armed men have kidnapped 11 persons in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State and demanded a ransom of N11 million from their families, police say in Yola, the state capital.
Addressing a news conference in his office, the state commissio-ner of police, Bukar Maina, how-ever said eight of the victims had been rescued by the police and the remaining three are being searched for.
He said none of the kidnappers had been arrested, but their sus-pected informant had been picked by the police.
He gave the names of the kid-napped victims as Alhaji Kunuri, Ali Nashi, Umar shehu, Ali Bello, Deggi Borori, Jemma Alhaji Be-mumu, Buba Ora, Bako Imma, Ham-madu Moudo, Azika Shehu and Shagari Umnar Kunuri.
“Eight of the victims were res-cued, while the remaining victims are still being searched for.
“Upon investigation, it was revealed that one Ruwan Bangaji was discovered to be the person that gave information to the cul-prits about the parents of the victims.
“Ruwan Bangaji was arrested and he is helping police in their investigation,” the commissioner said.
He also announced the arrest of several suspected armed rob-bers who were accused of rob-bing a permanent secretary in the state, Prince Medan Fwah, and of robbery attacks along Numan-Jalingo Road.
The commissioner also said police had foiled a robbery attack of a group of bandits who attacked Celtel insulation station along Song-Gombi road in a 911 lorry, tied down the security watchman and removed a generator.
“Police mobilised to the scene and the culprits abandoned both their lorry and the stolen generator and escaped in the bush,” he said.
The police, he said, also ar-rested three persons over alleged possession of hard and dange-rous drugs in the state.
One of the suspects, 35-year-old Shehu Usman, was “arrested with 179 raps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp,” while the other two – Emmanuel Oluchukwu and Friday Owo – were arrested “haw-king large quantity of Taramax caps suspected to be dangerous and harmful to public health,” he said. |
