Ambassador Tasks Okiro On Kidnapped Chinese National

The Chinese government has tasked the Inspector General of police (IGP), Mike Okiro, over the disappearance of one of its citizens, who was kidnapped in the Niger-Delta area over a year ago.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Xu Jiangyuo, who stated this when Okiro visited him as part of his tour of embassies in the country, urged the IGP to help find the missing man.

He also expressed fears about threats of attack on Chinese interest in Nigeria, because of international criticism of China ‘s role in Dafur, Sudan and the hosting of the Olympics Games in Beijing.

While thanking Okiro for providing security to him and his staff, Jiangyuo noted that his embassy and Chinese people in Nigeria have a sense of security, except for the kidnap of two of their members, sometimes last year, as a result of which one is still missing.

Okiro on his part told the envoy that he was at the embassy to get first hand knowledge of its security situation and assured him that the missing Chinese citizen would be found.

“About March last year, two Chinese were kidnapped in Anambra State. We stormed the camp and rescued one, the criminals took the other one away and up till now, we have not seen either the criminals or the Chinese.

“We are still looking for them. It is more than one year. But we hope that God willing, we will get them one day. I have not lost hope,” Okiro said.
