Almost two years after he left office, a fugitive, former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, will today return to the state a hero, as the people are preparing elaborate reception to welcome him.Indication of his return emerged yesterday, when his wife, Margaret, visited Yenagoa last week.
Although the visit was private, it almost turn into a celebration, as hundreds of women trooped to the Alamieyeseigha�s private home at Opolo, a suburb of the state capital to welcome her.Even as the family is said to be organising a low-key reception, his friends and political associates, led by Dr Steve Azaiki, Coordinator of the National Think Tank and Mr Joseph Evah, Chairman of the Ijaw Monitoring Group, have commenced elaborate reception for him at his country home at the University town of Amassoma, in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.
THISDAY gathered that the state Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, a former Political Adviser to Alamieyeseigha, is set to welcome him to the Government House, as he may abandon closing ceremony of the retreat for political office holders in the state holden at the Eleko Tourist Resort Beach in Lagos .Action Congress(AC) in the state described his return as �a welcome development to the state and environs, most especially at a time when there is the urgent need to address and find a lasting solution to the increasingly deteriorating and hostile security situation in the state and environs, which have adversely crippled and grounded activities of crude oil production in the state and its environs, due to incessant attacks, hostage-taking and other hostilities.�
The AC in the statement signed by its State Secretary, Ebikibina Miriki, said Alams home-coming will help heal the wounds in the land and speed up the reconciliation process.
