Agip oil wells bombing: JTF gives communities 48 hours

THE Joint Task Force (JTF) on the Niger Delta, codenamed, Operation Restore Hope, yesterday, gave the Ogulagha and Odimodi communities a 48-hour ultimatum, which expires tomorrow (Wednesday), to produce the belligerents who bombed two oil wells belonging to the National Agip Oil Company (NAOC) last Saturday in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Vanguard learnt that the order from the Commander of the JTF, Brigadier-General Nanven Rimtip, followed a directive to the Task Force by the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who held a meeting with the representatives of the two communities in Asaba, yesterday, to thoroughly investigate the matter.

The meeting was very brief and Governor Uduaghan was said to be furious about the behaviour of the youths. A security source said perpetrators of the act have been narrowed down to the two communities because the issues in dispute were between them.

Vanguard reported, yesterday, that three of the youths who took part in the bombing have been arrested by an Ijaw activist working in alliance with the Delta Waterways Security Committee (DWSC). It is likely that they would be handed over to JTF following the directive that the two communities should produce the youths who committed the havoc
