The new Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA2) has come alive as Aero Contractors and Chanchangi Airline Limited begin operations at the new complex. Also, airline operators, banks and other business organisations are jostling to occupy the remaining vacant offices.
THISDAY checks yesterday revealed that apart from Aero Contractors that has commenced full operational activities at the MMA2, Chanchangi Airline is expected to begin its own operations tomorrow.
According to the spokes-person for Chanchangi, Mr. Olu Balogun, �we are expected to begin our operations tomorrow. We have so much hope and I believe our customers are also hopeful to enjoy the new facilities at the new Domestic Wing.�
Passengers were seen thronging to board Aero Contractor to one destination or the other, while others disemarked. Some passengers expressed satisfaction with the new facilities at the new Domestic Wing. To Mr. Austin Uloyak, a Financial Accountant with Shell Petroleum Develop-ment Company of Nigeria Limited, �the MMA2 is quite interesting. This is my second time of making use of the place. I’m proud of Nigeria and Nigerians. The place is lively, healthier and exotic. It can be ranked among other international wings of some international airports. The atmosphere is great. By the time the whole place becomes operational, it is going to be greater.�
The President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Dr. Steve Mahowu assured that the MMA2 will become fully operational in the next one week. �I have said before that it is going to be a gradual process. Most of our members unfortunately are gounded. However, the ones on operations are moving to the new Domestic Wing of the airport gradually. I can assure you that within a week all other airline operators will move to the new site,� he said.
On the reservations expressed by some airline operators over the price charged by Bi-courtney Limited, Mahowu said �we have discussed that with the management of Bi-coutney and we have arrived at something meaningful. It is better for and it better for Bi-courtney. The MMA2 is a good development that should be embraced by all. It has raised the bar in airport operations in the country.�
