Following the outbreak of fresh crises in Kafanchan and Zonkwa yesterday, Nigeria’s Kaduna State government has imposed a 24 hour curfew in the affected areas in the southern part of state.
From what P.M.News gathered this evening, the crises in the two areas was sparked off after a corpse, said to be of a muslim, was found behind Emir of Jema’a ‘s palace in the early hours of today .
The Kafachan muslim youth, who suspected that the southern Kaduna Christians could be responsible for the killing of one of their Muslim brothers went on rampage to protest what a Jema’a palace source described to P.M.News as “ wicked act by our Christian brother in Kafanchan ”.
Meanwhile , the police were able to control the protest from getting out of hand , especially as Kafanchan and other parts of the southern Kaduna are on the edge due to the attack on Saint Joseph Catholic Church , Zonkwa , where two women were killed and eleven members of the church injured by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
However, the situation later this evening went out of hand as Christian youths, both in Kafanchan where the incident occurred and Zonkwa, went on a counter protest against the Muslims .
P.M.News gathered from the Emir’s Palace that the Christian youths burnt houses and killed innocent travelers and residents.
When the situation went out of control and the security agencies could not stop the escalating crises, the state government after an emergency security meeting declared a 24 hour curfew in the two affected local governments of Jema’a and Zango Kataf.
The Special Adviser on media Publicity to Kaduna Governor, Reuben Buhari said the curfew was necessary to enable the security agencies maintain peace in the areas.
He appealed to all citizens in the state to remain calm and law abiding. He said government will ensure that all measures are taken to restore sanity in the affected areas.
The Emir of Jema,a Alhaji Isa Muhammad said there was still tension in the area, despite the presence of security men.
