A set of heavily armed police and soldiers attacked a convoy of former Niger Delta militants in the confluence town of Lokoja in Kogi state earlier today.
A variety of ex-militants numbering 6,000 were traveling in convoy of buses to the federal capital territory, Abuja to protest non-payment of allowances allocated for their resettlement.
To prevent them from reaching Abuja a combined team of police and army units stopped the group shooting indiscriminately and critically injuring some three people.
There was a total logjam on the Lokoja-Abuja highway as travelers park their vehicles to escape the shooting leaving their vehicles on the highway.
