Members of the Ijaw Youth Council in Bayelsa State yesterday shut down the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Secretariat and blocked the Chief Melford Okilo road disrupting traffic for several hours.
Spokesman of the council, Bolouokpo Subai said they were protesting to demand N10 million as Christmas gift from the NDDC, stressing that“Every December, the NDDC used to give us money, but this year, it is deceiving us. The money is meant for the IYC central and we don’t understand the game that is playing out here, we need our money”.
Also speaking, the Vice-chairman of the council, Rawlings Ezetu said the demand was legal, claiming that “it is our December money, we need it. The money is N10 million”.
Ezetu noted that the protest was meant to force the authorities to act fast and draw the attention of road users to the plights of members.
