30 die in fuel tanker fire in Nigeria

At least 30 people were burnt to death on Sunday following a fuel tanker explosion at Gani Gaku in Nigeria’s northern Adamawa state, the private Nation newspaper reported Monday.

It said the tragedy occurred as people scooped fuel from a fallen fuel tanker.

An explosion followed by an inferno consumed most of the people, while many others escaped with burns.

The bodies of the victims were said to have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Numan.

Spokesman for the state police command Nemuel Yoila confirmed the incident but did not give any casualty figure.
