HUNDREDS of Ugborodo youths on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest against the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited,CNL, for flooding the Escravos Tank Farm with non-native casual and contract staff while thousands of indigeneous youths are roaming the town jobless.
The protesting youths on board seven outboard engine speed boats took over the waterways around the Tank Farm for the second running while military personnels have been put on red alert to contain any eventuality.
Vanguard reliably learnt that CNL management has entered into negotiations with leaders of the youths with a view to proferring solutions to the problems.
Similar protest in 2004 by the youths led to the death of two youths while 25 others had serious gun shot wounds from Chevron military security agents.
The Ugborodo people are the chief host community to CNL and have repeatedly accused the management of the American oil giant oppressive tendencies in the area of employing their youths, deprived of even minor contracts apart devilishly devastated their environment and flooding the Tank Farm with only their relations to the detriment of Ugborodo people.
Leaders of the protesting youths, Messrs Bawo Ododo and Tunu disclosed that non-natives and their godfathers would soon get a surprise package, saying that they cannot be perpetual hewers of woods and fetchers of water for others in their own land.
Efforts to get the reaction of Mrs. Okorie and R. Momoh of the Public Affairs Department at Lagos and Warri
proved abortive as they would not pick up their calls.
