The Federal Government yesterday declared Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24 as Public Holidays to mark this years Id-El-Kabir celebration, also known as Ramadan Festival. The celebration of this years Id-El-Kabir by Muslim faithfuls, falls on Sunday and Monday.

A statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs signed by A.A. Nelson on behalf of the Minister, Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji said in view of the fact the Id-El-Kabir falls on Sunday and Monday, the Federal Government has also graciously declared Tuesday, October 24 as a Public Holiday.

According to the statement, on behalf of the Federal Government, the Honourable Minister of Internal Affairs, Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji sent sincere and warm greetings to all Muslims at home and abroad, as well as to foreign diplomats, nationals and friends residing in the country.

Adeniji advised all Muslims to emulate the exemplary attributes of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) amongst which are tolerance, love and peaceful coexistence between people of same and different faith.

He urged all Nigerians irrespective of their religious belief to use the occasion of the Ramadan festival for sober reflections and pray for peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.

Stating that the President should not have waited this long, Ajumobi said that if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had managed the problem well in the first instance, there would not have been a state of emergency.

According to him, It reflects on the management style of this government; it is he same mentality of military fiat and I think the situation should have been better managed.
