MILITANTS yesterday kidnapped an American and a Briton in Port Harcourt, River State swelling the list of hostages in the custody of restive youths in the Niger Delta.
Before the latest abduction, security agents were grappling with the abduction of 24 Filipinos who were taken hostage at the weekend.
The American Billy Graham, Neil Mirrless, a Briton, were working for G.S. Limited. A US embassy official confirmed the abduction of the American.
the State Police PRO Mrs Baresua Ireju who confirmed the incident said the expatriates were driving in a 406 saloon car with registration number EV 0555 B when they were pounced upon by the militants.
The spate of abductions has forced the police command in the state to deploy men to monitor the water fronts for the fleeing militants. No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction.
The Briton and US national �were abducted early this morning and taken to an unknown location,� Rivers State police spokeswoman Barasua Ireju told AFP, adding that details of the incident were still sketchy.
Meantime, the Philippines foreign department said that as many as 24 Filipino nationals, and not the six previously announced, were taken hostage by unidentified attackers on Saturday in neighbouring Delta State.
