FOR the second time in two weeks, the State Security Service (SSS), yesterday, took a second official of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation into custody.
Mr. Paul Ofana, special assistant to Mr. Timi Frank, the director of youths of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, was alleged by the SSS to be an accomplice of his boss, Frank, in the perpetuation of terrorism in the Niger Delta.
The arrest of Ofana came upon allegations by the Atiku Campaign Organisation of an imminent plot to frame Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, the director general of the Atiku Campaign, for alleged sedition. The campaign, in a statement, said that suspected agents of the SSS had recently been shadowing Ayu in unmarked vehicles.
Ofana was arrested by the SSS officials at the Abuja airport minutes before he was to board a plane with Vice president Atiku Abubakar for a campaign rally in Maiduguri. SSS spokesman, Ado Muazu said Ofana was picked up for collaborating with Frank in orchestrating terrorism in the Niger Delta area.
Frank himself was picked up penultimate Friday minutes before the AC rally in Benin. The Atiku campaign alleged he was picked for supposedly stopping a plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to disorganise the Benin rally. He was said to have persuaded the youths supposedly imported to disorganise the rally from forging ahead with the plan.
Ofana and other members of the Youth Directorate of the Atiku Campaign, according to officials of the Atiku Campaign, were said to have become apprehensive of their safety since the arrest of Frank a week ago. The arrest had to do with acts of terrorism. Investigations are still on and that is the reason he was picked up today. He was an accomplice of Timi Frank, Muazu told Sunday Vanguard yesterday.
