AS the general elections draw near, men of the Nigerian Army have been charged to adequately prepare for any eventuality that may arise.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major-General M. S. Saleh, gave the charge on Friday at a cocktail party held in his honour at the Tiger Officers Mess, Agodi, Ibadan.
The army chief, who took command of the 2 Division over a month ago, in his remarks, noted that both Nigeria and the military were currently in transition.
According to him, while Nigeria would be transiting from one civilian administration to another in May, the military was transiting from an era of unprofessionalism to full professionalism.
Major-General Saleh urged the military men to prepare themselves for the April elections, adding that they must always discharge their duty in a most professional manner.
We all have to anticipate the general election and we can only do that by adequately preparing for any eventuality.
We prepare for war but we fervently pray it does not occur. Our task is to support the Nigerian police to maintain law and order, he stressed.
The GOC, who expressed appreciation to members of the officers mess for honouring him, also presented gifts to some officers of the 2 Division posted out to new formations.
