Militants free Lebanese

Militants in the Niger Delta on Sunday released a Lebanese construction worker seized last Wednesday.

He was kidnapped at Akinima in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Lebanese, identified as Raymond, was working for Alren Construction Company at the time of his kidnap.

The Personnel Manager of the firm, Mr. Kizito Azuh, confirmed to our correspondent in Port Harcourt on Monday that Raymond had since returned to Lebanon.

Giving an insight into how the Lebanese was freed, Azuh said the militants decided to release the foreigner when they realised that he was a construction worker and not an oil worker, as they originally thought.

He said, “The men in military uniform who arrested Raymond suddenly lost interest in him when they realised that he was not an oil company staff. They drooped the man at where they parked his jeep and asked him to go away.

“At that point, Raymond hired a taxi cab and drove straight to the airport and left for Lagos en route for Lebanon.

“We are happy that the militants neither demanded for any monetary ransom nor hurt Raymond,” the manager said.

The militants stormed the company’s site at Akinima last Wednesday and took away Raymond and Azuh at about 3pm on the pretext that they were wanted in connection with an undisclosed crime.
