DELTA State PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, weekend, secured the support of the British government and the state indigenes in Lagos for his three-point programme of peace and security, human capital and infrastructural development.
Uduaghan received the endorsement of the British government for his programmes at an interactive session he hosted for Delta stakeholders, at the Metropolitan Club, which the British high commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Richard Grozney attended as a special guest. The PDP candidate urged the British envoy to use his good office to encourage foreign NGOs to partner with the government in ensuring peace and security in the state in line with his programme of action.
Uduaghan, also at a fund raising dinner at the Civic Centre venue, explained to Delta State indigenes resident in Lagos, how the agenda of his administration would lead to peace, empowering of youths, thereby reducing youth restiveness and economic growth of the state. He told his audience: We want to actively involve the youth in the policing of the oil pipelines so as to put a stop to the vandalism and we will get them paid, particularly the semi-skilled ones who are not gainfully engaged, this will make them to have sense of belonging which will in turn make them see these installations as theirs.
He added: Our concentration will also be shifted to human capital development and infant and maternal mortality, just as we have in our plans to give free medical care to children not above five years and we shall take that seriously, which will improve on the life expectancy. Also qualitative education and addition of value to teachers at all levels of education. Once this is done, this will make the multinationals to absorb more of our children to their labour force rather than bringing expatriates, local content will be given utmost priority.
