Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, failed to show up at the Action Congress campaign rally held in Port Harcourt, the River State, to canvass for votes in next months election.
Abubakar was slated to address the rally and present the party candidates for the elections.
But as at 2pm, when the rally ended, there was no indication that the embattled he would turn up for the rally held at the Isaac Boro Park.
However, Atikus running mate, Senator Ben Obi, showed up and appealed to Nigerians to vote enmass for the AC, which he said, had the answers to Nigerias problems.
Obi promised that, if the party was voted into power, it would use the resources generated from the Niger Delta to solve the environmental and economic problems facing the natives and change the landscape of the region.
Obi pointed out that the time had come for Nigerians to reject the Peoples Democratic Party, which, in his view, failed to salvage Nigerians from the predicament after eight years on the saddle.
A one-time minister chieftain of the AC, Chief Tom Ikimi, restated the resolve of Atiku to contest the April polls so as to be able to respond to the development challenges facing the nation.
Ikimi said it was futile for the Independent National Electoral Commission to attempt to stop Atiku from contesting, since he had not violated any known law in the country to warrant exclusion from the political contest.
The AC governorship candidate of the party in the state, Mr. Tonye Princewill, asked the people to join the party that they could enjoy the benefits of a new leadership based on transparency and accountability.
He said, We are tired of unfulfilled promises of the present administration, and it is time we moved out of the sinking house that can no longer protect its occupants.
