Atiku Not Indicted By FBI, Says VPs US lawyer

Vice President Atiku Abubakar was yesterday exonerated from allegation that he was indicted by the United States of America (USA) Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
This was contained in a letter from his US-based lawyer Mr. Edward Weidenfield to the Federal Government. Weider-field who had represented the Atiku since the FBI invaded his Maryland home in August 2005 said the claim by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in a press briefing in Lagos that the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) indicted Vice President Atiku Abubakar is not only false but misleading to Nigerians as well.
A statement from the Atiku Campaign Organisation explained that Ribadu during a press briefing in Lagos last week in which he sought to exonerate President Obasanjo from the offences for which he was pronounced guilty by the Senate Review Committee on the PTDF had claimed that the FBI in a letter to the Nigerian Government indicted Vice President Abubakar.
Mr Wederfield explained that investigations into the purported bribery scandal involving the American Congressman, William Jefferson had proved that the Congressman lied against the Vice President. It further stated that in a letter to the EFCC Chairman, the Washington based law firm of Weidenfield Law, the Vice Presidents U.S. attorney asserted that there is no FBI letter accusing the Vice President of wrong doings and that there was no deal between the Vice President and Jefferson as the evidence before the U.S. investigators has exonerated the Vice President who is under no threat of prosecution.
