Obasanjo blames saboteurs for outage

President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday, said the current epileptic power supply might be due to sabotage by some officials to frustrate his administrations effort at improving the power sector.

Government officials had blamed the deteriorating power supply on the activities of militants in the Niger Delta.

They claimed that the militants had cut gas supply to some of the generating outlets.

But speaking at the grand finale of the Peoples Democratic Partys presidential campaign rally in Abuja, Obasanjo said he suspected that saboteurs were responsible for the dwindling power situation.

The president said he was baffled that all efforts made by his administration to address the problem had so far failed.

Pointing out that the low supply of electricity had become worrisome to him and other officials of government, Obasanjo said he would raise a team to get to the root of the problem.

He said the finding of the team would be made public and that anyone found to be involved in sabotage would be sanctioned.

Obasanjo said, One of the things that have caused Nigerians some concern in recent times, and it is a recent phenomenon, is the low supply of electricity, and I thought that the measures we have taken in recent time would have put things right.

YarAdua said he was convinced that to achieve that, he would have to fight injustice, wrong attitudes and corruption.

He said, We must cherish truth, hard work and transparency which are part of our basic values. We must work hard and our people must consistently choose the path of progress.
