No One Can Disqualify Me -Atiku

Vice President Atiku Abubakar said yesterday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), cannot stop him from contesting the presidential elections.

Speaking at the closing rally of the Action Congress (AC), in Yola, Atiku said: “Don’t listen to insinuations making the rounds that I would not contest in the next election. I would contest because I am destined to do so.”

The Adamawa state governor, Mr. Boni Haruna, has said that there was no way the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would make an impact in his state during the forthcoming elections.

In his speech at the rally, Governor Boni pledged support for the presidential aspiration of the AC presidential candidate. He said: “In Adamawa state, there is no going back for the AC candidates and let me assure the PDP that even if Ibrahim Bapetel will not contest for governorship, then it can never be PDP. We must stop them in this state,” he added.

Atiku said the AC is a party that was created to salvage the people of Nigeria: “A sign that showed our acceptance is that we have never been rebuked by Nigerians throughout our campaigns. That is an indication that our mission is destined from God.”

He called on Nigerians not to make the mistake of voting the ruling PDP. “If you vote PDP, you have voted for poverty and chaos,” Atiku said.

He condemned all those who have led the country during military regimes saying, “What have such people done for the nation that warrants them to come asking for your votes now?”

Atiku berated the performance of the Obasanjo administration in which he has served for eight years. He said: “In 1999, the output generation of electricity was 3,500 megawatts, today we are down to less than 1000 megawatts after we have invested nearly five billion dollars trying to rehabilitate and build more power stations to no avail. This is a failure on the part of the PDP government,” he said.

He said the country’s roads have never been so bad. “Today, our roads have become the worst in the history of this country,” Atiku added.

He said the PDP government’s fight against corruption is not a sincere commitment saying, “if the nation has invested so much on electricity and roads, where are the roads, where is the money? We don’t see the money and we don’t see the roads so the money has gone through corruption,” he alleged.

INEC recently published a list of candidates to contest elective positions in this month’s general elections. The commission omitted the names of some politicians including the vice president even after an injunction by an Abuja Federal High Court that INEC should include the name of Atiku Abubakar as AC’s presidential candidate.
