Restrictions on movement announced by the Federal Governmnt for today’s elections will disrupt flight operations across the country.
This has led to fears that foreign travellers may be stranded due to what some operators describe as insufficient notice from aviation authorities. Following the restriction, most airlines both local and foreign may be forced to reschedule their operations to meet up with the period the election exercise will last.
There was low flight operations recorded at the General Aviation Terminal of the airport yesterday as a result of the preparation for today’s elections.
At the General Aviation Terminal of the local airport, most airlines only carried out scanty operations due to lack of the usual high passenger traffic.
When THISDAY visited the local wing of the airport, only few passengers were at the arrival and departure lounge of the airport.
According to somes airline officials, the only few passengers travelling were those going to the South East and Northern parts to vote in their home states.
At the international wing of the airport, it was a different story as many passengers were seen awiting their flights.
One of the passengers who gave her name as Mrs Tayo Popoola told journalists that she was on her way to London to visit her family, saying that she never expected that this election would be different from the past ones.
Unlike the local operations, many of the foreign carriers were optimistic that they will operate the normal flights as passengers were seen trooping into the international airport to catch their flights.
