Police ban movement in Lagos from 9am-8pm

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said it would restrict movement in the state from 9am-8pm on Saturday (today).

The state command said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni (SP), that the restriction of movement was meant to safeguard the elections in the state.

Ojajuni advised persons who want to move from one destination to another to do so before 9am. You are also advised not to traverse with vehicles until 8pm.�

Our correspondent also gathered that the police commissioner in Lagos State, Mr. Bashiru Azeez, had increased the number of policemen who will monitor the election on Saturday from 20, 000 used last week to 30, 000.

A senior officer at the state police command confided in Saturday Punch that it was to further reduce instances of electoral violence in the state. Ojajuni, said all measures taken by the police were meant to ensure the security of lives and property during and after the elections.
