The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Hezekiah Dimka, on Wednesday explained the circumstance of the Sunday bomb explosion, which rocked a popular hotel in Effurun, headquarters of Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
One person, whose identity is yet-to-be- ascertained died in the incident.
Dimka, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said the report of the preliminary investigation revealed that three persons arrived the hotel to arrange a room for one Alhaji, identified simply as Adamu, in the early hours of Sunday in a Mazda car.
According to him, while the deceased went to drop the luggage allegedly belonging to the Alhaji in the room, his accomplices waited patiently in the car, whose engine was kept running.
Dimka said the victim, who was probably directed to plant the bomb and return to the car immediately, got killed due to wrong timing and lack of expertise in the handling of the explosive device.
Dimka said the two accomplices speed-off from the scene following the deafening blast from the hotel.
The CP said neither the accomplices nor Adamu eventually showed up in the hotel since the incident occurred on Sunday.
Dimka said the police had instituted a full-scale investigation into the incident, adding that a comprehensive report would be made public as soon as bomb experts concluded the second stage of thier assignment in Zone 5, of the Nigerian Police Force in Benin City .
Already, Dimka said the bomb experts were analysing samples obtained from the scene at a laboratory in Benin , adding that their findings would be ready in the next few days.
Dimka, however, vowed that the police would uncover the masterminds and motive for the action.
The explosion rocked one of the buildings in the hotel at 7:15am on Sunday, less then 24 hours after the Presidential and National Assembly elections were held nationwide.
