Four Containers Of Explosives Missing In Transit

The country�s security may be threatened with the discovery that four containers of explosives allegedly imported from Germany had disappeared in transit.

It was learnt that five of the six containers received were tampered with, while some quantities were found missing before the vessel berthed at the Apapa Port.

Saturday Independent investigation revealed that the Nigeria Development and Construction Company (NDCC) had imported the explosives from Germany.

But the company found out that when the delivery of the explosives were taken, four containers were missing from the 10 that were shipped as shown by the bills of lading and proforma invoices earlier received.

Consequently, three explosives and one detonator were missing.
In all, it was gathered that three containers of high explosives weighing 925kgs, one container of 110, 000 pieces of electric detonators detonating fuse and extension wires were allegedly missing.

It was gathered that the vessel, marked EX-BACO LINER2/V210, was intercepted and the entire crew members abducted and held hostage for several weeks by the Niger Delta militants between January 20 and February 13 this year.
Following the discovery, management of the NDCC lodged a report with the Nigeria Police Anti-Bomb Squad in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Also, copies of the report had been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, and National Security Adviser, Abdullahi Mukhtar, for proper action on the missing items.
