THE Federal Government on Monday openly acknowledged the growing state of insecurity in the Niger-Delta and vowed to tackle the menace with all seriousness.
Speaking at the handing over of the first batch of 354 various brands of vehicles donated to the Nigeria Police Force by the Presidential Committee on Police Equipment Fund (PCPEF) in Abuja, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan said President Umaru Yar�Adua was worried about the state of insecurity in the country.
According to him, �nobody is happy about what is happening in the country about our security. In Nigeria today, houses are over-protected with security. In case of any fire outbreak, many people will die inside, we can not move freely, the Niger Delta problem is there.
�If there is no security, there cannot be government, this administration will take the issue of security of life and property seriously,� he said.
Dr. Jonathan also stated that quick action would be taken to ensure the passage of the bill on police funding before the National Assembly with a view to ensuring proper and adequate funding of the police while the welfare of police personnel would be given adequate attention by the present administration.
He appealed to members of the public to assist the police with useful information about criminals in the society to make the task of policing the country an easy one for the police.
