Following a fresh security alert from the British government, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has beefed up security around airports in the country.
The alert, which came on Tuesday, led to disruption of flights at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, as many passengers became stranded.
According to sources, airlines like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Nigeria and other UK-bound airlines had their flights disrupted, as they had to adhere to the directives of the British government to all airlines operating into Heathrow airport.
Based on the alert, many passengers were stranded while others had to reschedule their flights.
Confirming the flights disruption, the media consultant to the British carrier, Demola Adedoyin, said British Airways flights like other carriers were delayed because of the alert.
He, however, explained that flights had started picking up by Wednesday.
Also, the General Manager, Public Affairs of FAAN, Akin Olukunle, said the authority had increased security around the nation’s airport to avoid any scare.
