Akwa Ibom Gets N55.9bn from Oil Companies

Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) has said Akwa Ibom State government received a total of N55.9 billion last year from oil companies operating in the state, as deductions for the 13 per cent derivation.
MPN also said its operations account for the bulk of revenue accruing to the state government from the Federation Account, and indicated that there is more to gain, as the company would continue to support communities’ development efforts.
Its Executive Director, Gloria Essien, said this in Eket, while presenting items and prizes to three institutions, adding that the company was able to achieve the feat, because of the cooperation and support it received from government and people of the state.
We must repeatedly emphasise the need for sustained conducive operating environment for our operations from individuals, institutions and communities, she said.
The Institutions, which included the Immanuel Hospital, Eket, Motherless Babies Home, Eket and the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, in Ikot Ekpene Local government area, received items and redeemable cash prizes estimated at over N78.3 million.
Essien said the presentations were in furtherance of the companys community and social welfare programmes for host communities, adding that it would require more support and co-operation from the people to further contribute to the development of the state.
The event hosted traditional rulers, opinion leaders, the media, students, school heads, parents and guardians who reaffirmed MPN’s development partnership initiative.
Giving highlights about the medical equipment presented to Immanuel Hospital, MPN Public Affairs Manager, Mrs Rita Umoren, said the 40 feet container contained beds and beddings, blood collection sets, crutches, examination tables, surgical equipments, orthopaedic sets, resuscitators, wheel chairs, X-ray carts and other assorted items.
Umoren said the equipment was secured through the assistance of Medisend Internationals, a US based non-profit organisation, while the cost of shipment and clearance was paid by the Joint Venture of NNPC/MPN.
The Motherless Babies Home, Idung Iniang, was given a Toyota Hiace Bus valued at N4.5 million, to further improve on the services at the Home, especially movement of babies and materials.
