Adamawa State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has handed over 12 suspects to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), for prosecution over alleged vandalisation of pipelines and electric cables.
Commandant of the Corps, Dr Goodluck Koko Asibi, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Yola yesterday, said the arrest was in respect of the vandalisation of some NNPC pipelines and PHCN cables by hoodlum.
Asibi, who described the incident as an act of economic sabotage, said the command has intensified investigation into the vandalisation at Mayo-Belwa last Monday.
He declared that the NSC DC had to handover the arrested to EFCC for further investigation and prosecution, because it is the federal agency saddled with matters related to economic sabotage and its prosecution.
Asibi said NSCDC is networking with other law enforcement agencies to arrest more economic saboteurs. The commandant enjoined royal fathers, opinion leaders and other stakeholders in the rural areas to help NSCDC with vital information, to enable it curb the phenomenon in Adamawa state.
The NSCDC boss also frowned at the proliferation of unlicensed private security organizations which he described as a sad development as no unlicensed security outfit has the right to operate without the scrutiny and approvals of NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.According to him, proliferation of private security outfits has become a breeding ground for quacks who masquerade as security men to harass innocent folks and even connive with hoodlums and armed robbers for raiding of houses. He disclosed that there are nine of such unlicensed private security outfits in the state which NSCDC would close down for their inability to meet the requirements of the licensing authority, stressing that their existence is illegal hence the threat to seal them off. Asibi also disclosed that frantic efforts are being made by NSCDC in collaboration with other agencies to discourage the sales of petroleum products by black marketers who dispense the products to consumers at exorbitant rates thereby causing artificial scarcity. Sales of petroleum products is illegal and culprits will be arrested and brought to book. We will discourage such an ugly development in the state, he said.
