Expert Advises FG On Refineries

The Federal Government has been advised to ensure that only technical experts are allowed to work on refineries, to ensure they are properly rejuvenated.

Making the call in an interview with THISDAY, business development analyst, Alhaji Kabiru Audu, said the ailing refineries could come back on full stream if experts who know their onions work on them.

He expressed regrets that Nigeria imports all its petrol when it is endowed with natural resources, especially petroleum products, noting that the issue of importation needed not arise if the refineries were working at optimum capacity.

He, however, expressed confident that President Umar Musa Yar’Adua is capable of turning the energy sector around, given various projects recently put in place by the Federal Government.

“The country is endowed in terms of natural resources, especially petroleum products, the crude itself is from here, which we have been exporting all the while. The issue of importation needed not arise in the first place, if the refineries, (Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries) were working at optimal level; there would not have any need for importation. And what had happened in the past was that most of these oil marketers, for reasons best known to them, have gone into importation and they never really encourage indigenous oil company,” he said.
