The whereabouts of the kidnapped 11-year-old son of the only female member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mrs. Ruby Benjamin, remained unknown to security operatives five days after his abduction just as Bayelsans residing in the troubled Garden city of Port Harcourt have started relocating their families to Yenagoa in the wake of the fatricidal cult war.
It was gathered that the kidnappers of Daniel who contacted his father, Pastor Kenneth Benjamin, some hours after the lads abduction demanding N20 million ransom have since severed contact with the family.
Little Daniel was snatched in the early of hours of Wednesday where he was sleeping with his elder brother by some unknown gunmen said to have gained entry to his parents home after de-roofing the house without arousing the suspicion of any member of the family.
They were said to have passed through the main door on their way out with their victim and disappeared into the thin air.
A source who spoke anonymously to this reporter at the Yenezue-Gene residence of the Benjamins said the family is presently disturbed by the development.
He added that the family is not finding the development palatable especially with stories making the round that the government contact dispatched to the creek with the mandate of searching all the militants camps for the missing boy has not yielded any positive result.
But a security source told Vanguard that the missing boy might just be kept somewhere in the forest within Yenagoa and not in the creek as been speculated in some quarters.
He cited the case of the kidnapped 2-year-old son of a traditional ruler who was rescued in far away Port Harcourt two weeks ago.
According to him, it was in line with this thinking that security was reinforced within the capital city three days ago especially around the entry and exit points.
The kidnappers, it would be recalled, had during their last conversation with Pastor Benjamin shortly after his son’s abduction warned that they are prepared to keep the boy as long as possible until their demand of N20 million ransom is met.
A family sources told Vanguard that some unknown persons had earlier written the lawmaker before her inauguration demanding the sum of one million naira which she turned down prompting her to engage the services of boys from her Akassa community to provide security for a while before disengaging their services when she felt it was no longer necessary.
Meanwhile, Bayelsans residing in the troubled city of Port Harcourt have started relocating their families to Yenagoa as the situation in the Rivers State capital deteriorates with rival cult gangs locked in supremacy battle.
Motor parks in the Yenagoa yesterday recorded a large influx of people from the once peaceful Garden city now described as the Iraq of the delta while only few persons were seen traveling to Port Harcourt.
Some drivers who spoke to Vanguard lamented the sad turn of event in Port Harcourt saying it is affecting their business.
