The Minister of State, Mr. Gabriel Aduku, has said about 360 new HIV/AIDs cases are detected monthly at the Virology Centre of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
The Minister stated this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday. He made this disclosure after a facility tour of the hospital in Kano.
He said the centre, which was commissioned in August, this year, was able to record the feat during its counselling, testing and treatment of patients in the hospital.
This center has been able to detect about 360 new HIV/AIDS cases on a monthly basis and the record is impressive. The center was commissioned in August this year to serve as a referral center for the counselling, testing, treatment and care of HIV/AIDs patients in the country.
It has also stood out in its Polymerase Chain Reaction facility, which it has used effectively to diagnose HIV cases in infants to enable parents and government commence early treatment and prolong the life of these infants.
I also want to say that Im impressed with the Drugs Manufacturing Centre of this hospital for being able to produce drugs like Antibiotics, Analgesics, Multivitamins, and Vitamin C.
The centre among other things serves as a regional training ground and the only research centre for medical experts on HIV/AIDS.
