Soldiers drafted to Kano as violence continues

Following incessant violence and the restive situation currently in Kano State, the military have been drafted to take over security of the state, as four days after the election, more cases of violence and attacks are being reported from across the state.

A press statement signed by Major Sabiu Abba Wudilawa, spokesman of 3 Motorized Brigade Kano, said the army was invited by the state government to assist the police restore law and order in the old commercial city.
According to the release, since Saturday 17th November, there had been reported cases of killings and loss of properties worth millions of naira following the crisis that erupted in some parts of the state.

The army says it’s personnel will work around the clock to restore normalcy, urging parents and guardians to warn their wards against engaging in any act that would disrupt peace and order.

Vanguard gathered that already soldiers have been stationed at all the 44 local government secretariats, including those burnt and vandalized, KANSIEC offices around the state and other strategic positions to safe guard them.
Similarly, the headquarters of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), located along Tarauni local government council is heavily guarded by military men, as the remaining election results will soon be announced.
