YarAdua warns Army on indiscipline, missing arms

President Umaru YarAdua has warned that the federal government will not tolerate any act of indiscipline by members of the armed forces.
He gave the warning at the closing session of this years Army Training Exercise at the Nigeria Army Training Centre in Kontagora.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, YarAdua decried reports of missing arms, ammunition and equipment in some army formations in the country.
Some arms and ammunition got missing, it is difficult to believe this because even in training, the army must account for the number of arms and ammunition given.
For them to really find out that some arms are flying as if they have wings, is a thing that we will not tolerate, he said.
YarAdua noted that the development was a serious breach of security and directed that all those involved should be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The president did not, however, elaborate on the reported cases of missing arms and ammunitions.
YarAdua, who was represented by the Defence Minister, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, charged the soldiers to imbibe the lessons learnt from the exercise.
He urged them to utilise the knowledge they acquired to enhance their performance in future exercises and operations.
In his address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Luka Yusuf, said that the vision of the Army was to be a highly disciplined and professional force.
Our focus is to have a force that will abide strictly by its constitutional roles, as there is no alternative to democracy, he said.
He pledged the forces unalloyed loyalty and commitment to deliver quality services within and outside the country.
Yusuf said that the exercise, tagged EAGLE RING 5, was the culmination of all the Armys exercises for the year.
He said that throughout the year, the Army had been engaged in internal security, simulation as well as field training exercises at all levels.
This years exercise was conducted by the officers and soldiers of 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Jos.
